A More Equitable Book Fair

Book Fair is a great way to kick off the school year! The colorful and fun displays get kids excited about reading and about buying books. Our goal each year is to make sure all of our families can enjoy Book Fair by asking those who can, to share the love!

Book Fair can be a joyous time, but it can also be one of the first places where children can first become aware of wealth inequality. To promote literacy in all homes we need to get more books in all homes.

We acknowledge that doing book fairs as fundraisers can feel less than awesome when you can't afford to give your kid money to spend there. However... we have yet to find a fundraiser as successful as the Scholastic Book Fair... and the library needs the money to keep our collection up to date, so that all Evergreen students can borrow books.

If you are coming from a place of abundance, please consider donating any amount to help us in our goal to get a book into the hands of every child.

The average amount for a child to be able to buy a book at the book fair is $12-15. With approximately 30% of our school’s population qualifying as economically disadvantaged, that means there are potentially 120 children who may not show up with any, ‘book fair money’. So, our goal for this fundraiser is $1620.

If you should need to tap into this fund, please use the ASK Button above, and we will make sure they can go with their class to pick out a book that sparks their imagination!

Any money donated to this fund that is not used directly by the children will be used to buy books from teachers’ wishlists or for the school library.
