We Love Our Families Event!
Our "We Love Our Families" (WeLOF) event is next week and we are so excited to share this opportunity with our Evergreen community along with families and friends from IC Imagine and Peak Academy!
We will be hosting leaders from local organizations like Building Bridges, SPARC Foundation, and Open Doors. These are wonderful organizations that are driving diversity, equity, and inclusion work in the city of Asheville. Come be inspired, and see how you can join in sparking change, building bridges, opening doors across Asheville!
Don’t miss Ray Hemachandra who will be speaking about the joy of parenting a child with a disability. Ray is "a trailblazing change agent, author, activist, speaker, and business consultant with a vibrant, multicultural heritage that fuels his drive for social change." --from his Tzedek Pauli Murray Brilliance Award write up.
The highly sought after Brittany Cutshaw, from the Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center (ECAC), will also be presenting about parent rights’ regarding students with disabilities, and how to advocate for your child.
Our Evergreen Counseling Team: Hunter Holland and Annie Mast will be there to answer your questions and provide information about counseling available at our school as well as connecting you with local mental health resources available to our community.
Childcare (for ages 4 and above) & dinner (pizza and veggies) on us! The theme of the childcare activities has been changed due to an unfortunate oversight on our part so that all community members feel safe and included. It will now be magic themed with activities like wand making, crafts, story time, and a fun competition.
The event runs from 6-8pm on Tuesday, February 18th. We will be starting in the gym and moving to the 7/8 hallway for the breakout sessions. We hope to see you there!!

Spotlight: PODER Emma
“Emma residents have a deep love for where we live, and PODER Emma and partner grassroots organizations have been working for more than a decade to build deep relationships, strengthen leadership skills and capacity in ourselves and our neighbors, and to cultivate a sense of place, belonging, identity and culture. Over the years we have created community solutions to problems in our neighborhood that have created a collective belief that when community comes together we can improve our lives for ourselves and future generations.
As the City of Asheville rapidly develops, many communities are facing accelerated displacement. The community relationships, trust, infrastructure and resources that have been built by neighbors is at risk being lost, particularly due to the vulnerability of mobile home residents who have seen the replacement of mobile home parks with condominiums and commercial properties across the county. This is why we focus on community controlled economic development, local policy advocacy and cultural work to protect our community.”

Last week a group of middle school students helped EverAfter Director, James, load up the remaining pallets of water to be delivered to PODER Emma.
