Grandfriends Day

We look forward to welcoming our grandparents and family friends to the school on Valentines Day this year!

Grandparents will meet in the gym at 10am for some coffee or tea and light refreshment followed by some time with your Evergreen friend/s in their classroom.

Please RSVP so we know how much coffee to put on to brew!

Student Council and Class Representatives

In the lead up to the election, our middle school, especially 7th Grade, studied democracy with a focus on local elections. They learned about the electoral college, made posters as if they were a chosen local candidate, and did countless other democracy themed lessons.

Students from 5th to 8th grade were also invited to run for Student Council. Students made posters and ran their own campaigns to become part of Student Council. Check out the winners!

Before the 7th Grade Democracy expedition, 7th grade students were asked to make poster about their concept of democracy.

Middle Class Economy

Fifth Grade has created a whole economy for their students as part of an ongoing Math Lesson. The students have online bank accounts, balance sheets, checks, and even cash featuring the 5th grade faculty! They have jobs, pay rent, participate in auctions, receive bonuses, and keep track of it all, learning invaluable money management lessons along the way!

Fourth Grade is the Year of the Bird

In fourth grade our Expeditionary Learning model really starts to strut it’s stuff. Throughout the fall student lessons are all woven into a bigger bird theme. Students map the biology of the bird through collage. They hone their storytelling skills by telling a story from the perspective of their chosen bird. They imitate the style of folk art to produce one of our favorite art projects, painted folk birds. They count birds that they observe on campus, they graph their findings.

Third Grade Super Heroes

In third grade our students spend a great deal of time thinking about how they can use their minds, bodies, and spirits to make the world a better place. They are asked to consider their values and what makes a person truly heroic.

Well, they may have missed a month of school, but I think Asheville has given a master class in everyday heroism.

Check out these photos from the launch of the Superhero Expedition where the kids used team building exercises to start leaning into teamwork and thinking about heroic traits.
