Kevin Thompson

Kevin Thompson grew up under the big sky of Oklahoma. He attended Hendrix College in Arkansas, graduating in 2006 with a BA in Studio Art and a minor in English. That fall, he moved east across the Smokies to Asheville. Here he discovered a passion for entertaining children and their families as a balloon twister, storyteller, and musician, winning two "Best of WNC" titles for his efforts. From 2009 to 2017, he directed the YMCA Afterschool program at North Buncombe Elementary, eventually becoming the worldwide heavyweight champion of the game "beach, boat, bacon."

At the launch of the 2017 school year, Kevin eagerly climbed aboard the rugged expeditionary learning vessel of Evergreen and served for five years as an associate teacher. 2022 marked his first proud year as a lead teacher. In 2023, he completed his master's degree in elementary education from Western Governors University. Kevin enjoys hunting wild mushrooms, playing guitar, tinkering with electronics, and guiding zipline tours in the summer. He lives in the Weaverville countryside with his perfect son, doting wife, and evil cat.
