Laura Mears

Laura has lived on the North Carolina coast for thirty-one years and moved to Asheville to enjoy the cooler weather and beautiful mountains.
Laura has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UNC-Wilmington and a Master’s degree in Social Work from East Carolina University. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and worked for thirteen years in the mental health field specializing in helping children of domestic violence. Eventually, Laura found her way to the area of education. Her true passion! She is a licensed Exceptional Children’s teacher K-12 and a licensed general education English Language Arts Teacher grades 6 through 9. She worked for Brunswick County Schools for fourteen years with eleven of those in special education. She knew she wanted to work with children since high school. She has ADHD and a learning disability and therefore has a unique understanding of children with learning differences.
Laura enjoys all types of outdoor activities. She is an avid Star Wars and LEGO fan and has a huge collection of vintage items. Here at Evergreen, she is known as JediLaura and yes, she is strong with the force!
