Mary Ann was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. After earning her BA in Art from Agnes Scott College, she attended James Madison University (teacher certification) and Western Carolina University (MA Ed in Art) and she is a National Board Certified Teacher in Art. Mary Ann taught pottery as a camp counselor for many summers in Brevard at overnight camp, and then organized her own summer art camps in Asheville. She is a career public school art educator in North Carolina, having taught Visual Art in Wake County, Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools before coming to Evergreen in 2011. Mary Ann is married to Clay Griffith, who works in Historic Preservation, and they have two grown children. Open water swimming, lap swimming, walking, hiking, traveling and reading are some of her favorite activities.
