Welcome Back From Spring Break Evergreen!
I hope it was just what you and your families needed to move into the rest of the year refreshed and inspired. As Spring blooms around us our staff and families are really focused on student led conferences and End of Year trips (6th and 8th grades go next week!)
Our end of year trips are such an important part of an Evergreen student’s growth and development. Beginning in Kindergarten with a sleepover in the classroom and progressing to more challenging and independent adventures in upper elementary and middle school, end of year trips culminate in a four-day backpacking adventure with Outward Bound in eighth grade.
These collaborative adventures are challenging and meaningful both physically and academically. This process echoes the ethos of Outward Bound Founder Kurt Hahn, that students be active in their own education, that they act as, “crew, not passengers.” In addition to the academic and physical components of each trip, students also get to immerse themselves increasingly in the wonders of the outdoor world. A world away from cushions and screens, they learn to appreciate the intrinsic beauty and worth of nature which can be seen in something very small like an inchworm, or something as massive as the amazing solar eclipse we witnessed earlier in the week. For some students our end of year trip will be the first time they see the majesty of a dark sky.
Getting to witness first hand the magic wave of growth and development that happens during these adventures is one thing I really treasured in my time as a parent of Evergreeners.

Rise and Shine Party at the Grey Eagle
the afternoon (for younger partiers)
and evening of June 8th.
Plan to join us as we celebrate all of our students’ accomplishments, to celebrate those moving up, and to celebrate those moving on to high school or other adventures! This is an open invite, so please ask those proud aunts and uncles, grandparents and friends to save the date for this family friendly event!
Monday, April 29th will mark our 25th observance of Earth Day! Our Environmental Education coordinator, Marin, always does an amazing job arranging meaningful activities and service work for students and invites presenters to shine a light on ways we can impact the earth for the better through environmental awareness or social justice action. Connect with Marin to see how you can help by volunteering to help presenters, or at the Plant Sale, and let’s make this Earth Day celebration a vital part of our vibrant community.
