Evergreen's Staff Appreciation Week is Happening May 13-17!

In appreciation of all our Evergreen teachers and staff do to enrich the lives of  our children, the week of May 13-17 will have some special days (full of food and caffeine) in their honor.

Nationally, most schools celebrate this week, but with our End of Year Trip schedule that would mean 3 grade levels would be left out! Below are the ways we have planned to celebrate teachers with the help of some generous local sponsors. Read through to see how you can contribute to this annual Appreciation-Fest!

Week's Events and Volunteer Opportunities:

Monday, May 13:

Starting the week off right! Coffee in the staff lounge from Round Earth Roasters.

Tuesday, May 14:

Please have your child bring in a handwritten note and/or flower to their teacher.
Don’t forget enrichment teachers, supplemental staff, admin and office who make a difference in your child’s day!

Wednesday, May 15:

Catered Lunch Day for Staff

Black Orthodontics is once again sponsoring a catered lunch for our staff (11-2pm). We thank them again for bringing bright smiles our way!

Thursday, May 16:

Gifts of Abundance – Please consider making a small monetary contribution for your teacher and assistant to your classroom coordinator for teacher/assistant gifts. Your classroom coordinator will be sending an email regarding this.

Please also consider helping out with gifts of abundance for enrichment teachers and other staff to make sure they feel appreciated as well. Parents are also welcome to give these directly to our enrichment staff individually. Sometimes we get questions about what other staff besides the lead and associate teachers are helping out in the classrooms. Here is a link to the Teachers & Staff page of the website. Differentiated Services are those teachers who also help out in classrooms with various students.

Classroom Coordinators: Contact Susan Haldane in the office if you need your parent email list. Please remember to bcc: when sending to your group.

Friday, May 17:

FroZen Monkey treats for staff at the end of the day.

If you have any questions, feel free to email Kellam.

Thanks again for your support of Evergreen teachers and staff,

The Evergreen Teacher Appreciation Committee

Grad Panel Judges Needed June 6th!

Dear Evergreen Community,

We have reached the time of year when 8th grade students are hard at work crafting their graduation portfolios and gearing up for their panel presentations. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to reflect on their experiences, growth, and future. As a volunteer judge, you see first hand the amazing humans that graduate from Evergreen and learn about their journey.  Any former judge will tell you, it is an impressive insight to the student experience of Evergreen.

We are seeking community members who are willing to join us to watch and evaluate student presentations.

Our Graduation Panel Event is scheduled for Thursday, June 6th from 5:00pm-8:30pm in middle school classrooms.  There will be a judges training from 5:00pm-5:25pm  in the Multipurpose Room prior to the presentations. Dinner, refreshments, and snacks will be provided.

Schedule:
Between 4:45-5:00 Judges arrive in lower middle school hallway
5:00-5:25- Judges training for ALL judges
5:30-8:30- Student Presentations

If you would like to join us as a judge, please sign up HERE by May 15th.

We want the focus to be on celebrating each student's unique accomplishments while also providing them feedback on their presentations.  Your role as a “judge” will be to watch a series of student presentations (4-5), ask questions, and fill out a rubric for each student.

More specific information will be provided to those that sign up.  Thank you all for supporting this wonderful group of 8th graders!

What is GiveButter?

If you’re a regular or occasional donor you’ve seen just how antiquated our old donor software was. And expensive!

We’re done churning out tired old campaigns, so we’re switching to a provider who offers better tools to improve our experience, and yours. And it’s free for the school, meaning more of your donation goes where it should: to the teachers and programs we all love.

What does this mean for you?

Folks with recurring gifts, please take a moment to switch your donation over. It’s a fairly simple procedure:

Need help? We’re happy to walk you through it over the phone or in the Development Office! You can give Susan a call at (828) 298-2173 ext 1216

Meet Fairy Butter. This whimsical snack has just 4 ingredients, and would be a fun spring treat to make with your fanciful child.

We need to raise 23K in the Month of May. Please click on the link below to check out the new, secure donation software and see how easy it is to Give to Evergreen with GiveButter.

  • $5 would offset the cost of a lunch

  • $25 would offset the cost of a box of paper

  • $50 would offset the cost of filling up the bus’ tank

  • $100 would offset a professional development course

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May can feel overwhelming for everyone here at Evergreen. End of year trips, end of grade testing, and final wrap up tasks take up much of our time. Meanwhile we are also squeezing in end of year celebrations for accomplishments and making it through another school year! During a month that can sometimes feel mind-boggling, it seems fitting that May is also Mental Health Awareness Month!

Even in our busiest season, it is good to remember to focus on the importance of mental health and its impact on our well-being. Mental health conditions can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, or income level. The good news is… mental health conditions are treatable. The more we talk about mental health together, the more normalized these conversations become – ultimately empowering people to seek the help they need.

Consider taking the opportunity this month to check in with your children about how they are doing. Maybe share your experience of how you are caring for your mental health. Help enforce the message that, “it’s okay to not be okay”, and encourage them to seek help when they need it.

Here is a great article focused on How to Talk to Your Kids About Their Mental Health with an included coloring and activity book.

Here is a resource for Mental Health Awareness Month that has how to access care, a crisis toolkit, and information about anxiety and kids.  Additional Parent and Caregiver resources on the mental health of children can be found here.
