Tourney of the Hoops Spring Fundraiser
In just 4 weeks, we’ll kick off our Tourney of the Hoops Fundraiser and a full school Spirit Week on March 24th! Our goal is to raise $50,000. This money helps our school reconcile the actual cost of educating our children in a meaningful way versus what we receive from local, state, and federal bureaus to do so, and strengthens our school community.
This year, fundraising is more critical than ever to provide learning resources and fund our school budget. We’re partnering with our friends at Givebutter to power our fundraiser to make it more profitable, fun, and easy for everyone. When you give you’ll see an option to TIP Givebutter, this is absolutely unnecessary and does not go toward the school. We do love the Givebutter platform though as it keeps more money here in our community.
Here’s what all students can get excited about:
Spirit Week! Middle School is planning an exciting Spirit Week that maximizes fun while minimizing stress for parents by choosing themes that do NOT necessitate purchases/elaborate preparations.
Game Day! Grades 3-8 will be playing Capture The Hoops, a unique Evergreen tradition, Grades K-2 will be enjoying a Hoopy Loopy Dance Party in the Gym! This high-energy event will give our students a much needed boost of fun!

Fostering Perseverance and Resilience in Children & Teens
In today’s world, we are noticing that more children seem to struggle with resilience—the ability to persevere through challenges, recover from setbacks, and adapt to change. Research suggests that modern parenting trends, increased screen time (which effectively limits unstructured play), and a culture that discourages failure and discomfort all contribute to this rising issue among our youth. When children aren’t given opportunities to struggle, make mistakes, and navigate new experiences, they miss out on skillbuilding opportunities that are essential for personal growth and self-efficacy. As a result, many kids are finding themselves in a state of resistance, fear [of failure], or emotional overwhelm when faced with tasks or experiences they perceive as challenging, and may even begin to avoid anything other than the familiar altogether.
As parents, it’s understandable to want to protect our children from frustration, discomfort, or fear and it is natural to want to help them feel better when they are struggling with something. These are big pieces of our role as parents and caregivers! Being available to guide our children through the challenges of life is important. However, if we "over-do" for them—fixing problems too quickly, shielding them from discomfort, stepping in before they have a chance to try, or even avoiding experiences entirely because of our own worries and discomforts—we unintentionally hinder their growth and rob them of the chance to develop important coping skills.
Finding a healthy balance between offering support and stepping back is a delicate parenting dance. It’s about knowing when to hold their hand and when to let them find their own footing, even if it means navigating a few stumbles along the way. Resilience isn’t built overnight, but small shifts in how we support our children can make a lasting impact. By allowing them to make mistakes, face challenges, and embrace new experiences, we empower them to grow into confident, capable individuals who believe in their own ability to handle life’s challenges.
Tips & Strategies for Fostering Resilience and Perseverance:
Encourage problem-solving instead of rescuing – Instead of rushing to fix difficulties, resist the urge to jump in. Ask guiding questions like, “What could you try next?”
Normalize struggle – Share your own challenges and how you work through them. Model flexibility and thoughtful self-reflection.
Allow room for failure – Let kids experience setbacks or disappointments and coach them through processing their emotions and trying again. Safe, age-appropriate risks help kids develop confidence and independence.
Limit screen time in favor of real-world exploration – Free, unstructured play allows kids to experiment, take risks, and learn problem-solving naturally. And don’t forget to get outside!
Reframe mistakes as learning opportunities – Instead of focusing on avoiding errors, encourage kids to see mistakes as stepping stones to growth. Ask, “What did you learn? What will you do differently next time?”
Embrace new experiences – Remember: Growth happens outside of our comfort zones. Whether it’s an overnight trip, a new hobby, or a social event, encourage your child to step into new situations—even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
Manage your own anxiety – If you find yourself holding your child back from an experience, ask: “Am I protecting them, or am I soothing my own fears?” If you tend to intervene quickly, pause and ask yourself, “Am I helping my child grow, or am I easing my own discomfort?”
